| Joan grew up in rural Shelbyville, IL.
Throughout her childhood, she enjoyed being outdoors, camping and fishing
with her dad, tending a variety of pets and horseback riding. She
graduated high school (third in her class), then the secretarial program
at Shelbyville’s Sparks Business College.
Before coming to “Music By Laurel Jean”
on a full-time basis, Joan did secretarial work for a tractor company,
a grain elevator and a trucking firm, and was even a dental assistant for
a time. With her previous years of work experience, her many talents and
gifts, great people skills and especially her steadfast Christian Faith,
she continues to bless this ministry.
Because Joan is sighted, she does most
of the driving (unless it is foggy), usually leaving any blind people to
read the map. She assists in the office with administrative work
and lends her expertise in setting up for Live appearances. Her strong
witness for Christ and her unique perspective as the mother of a blind
child, make her own motivational speaking an asset to many of our retreats,
workshops and other programs. She is also available as a one-on-one
mentor for parents of blind children.
When she is not serving tirelessly in the
ministry, Joan still loves being outdoors and caring for critters.
As of this writing, her furry and feathered charges include a small flock
of banty chickens, two chinchillas, a finch and at least two dogs, not
to mention the wild birds, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. who have turned the
backyard into a beautiful natural habitat. She enjoys cooking, reading,
EBay, garage sales and old western movies. She has three adult children,
two sons and a daughter, and can be reached through her
daughter’s Web site.
Romans 8:28: We know that all
things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are
called according to His purpose.
